How to use Digital Stickers

How to use Digital Stickers

Just like you can use digital planners and digital notebooks, you can use digital stickers as well!
They’re an amazing way to decorate your planner or make it more functional and the best part is that once you purchase the stickers you can re-use them forever!

In this guide we’ll see what digital stickers are, where you can find them and how you can use them.

What are digital stickers?

Digital stickers are images that you can import to your planner.
Any kind of image can be a digital sticker, but they usually come in PNG format so that they can have a transparent background. In that way they’ll work regardless the color of your planner’s background.

Where to find digital stickers

If you have never used digital stickers before, you might want to try them for free before you spend money on stuff you’ll never use. Most creators offer free stickers to their email list members.

Once you know what you want, if freebies are not enough anymore Etsy is definitely the place to start because this is where the majority of the creators sell their creations. Most of them even include free stickers with their planners.

How to use digital stickers

Digital stickers can come in different formats. The main ones are:

We’ll see all the steps for each format.
Disclaimer: the steps for the individual PNG files and the PNG sticker sheets may be different depending on what app you are using, but the steps are similar for most apps.

Individual PNG files

Individual PNG files can be used with any note taking app. And even if I’m a GoodNotes user they’re my favorite format for digital stickers.

To import them to your planner you can use either the drag & drop method or the image tool.

Drag & drop method

  1. Open the document where you want to place the sticker.
  2. Using the split screen, open the file manager and locate the sticker you want to use.
  3. Drag the sticker from the file manager to the note taking app.

Use the image tool

  1. Open the document where you want to place the sticker.
  2. Select the image tool (in some apps you might have to click on the “+” button and then on “Image“).
  3. Locate and select the sticker you want to use.

PNG sticker sheets

Just like the individual PNG files, the PNG sticker sheets can be used with any note taking app. The only difference is that they contain all the stickers in a single file.

  1. Import the sticker sheet to your document using one of the previous methods.
  2. Tap on the sticker and click on “Crop“.
  3. Rectangle crop: adjust the box to select the sticker.
Freehand crop: draw a circle around the sticker to select it.

Pre-cropped stickers (GoodNotes)

Most creators include a file with pre-cropped stickers that you can copy and paste using the lasso tool.
Unfortunately these are usually GoodNotes files, so if you are using another app you can’t use them.

Import the file to GoodNotes

  1. Open GoodNotes and tap on the “+” icon.
  2. Select “Import“.
  3. Find the file and click on it.

Use the stickers

  1. While you are on editing mode, click on the lasso tool and make sure that the “Image” option is activated.
  2. Select the sticker you want to use (you don’t need to select the whole sticker).
  3. Tap on the selection and click on “Copy“.
  4. Open the document where you want to place your sticker.
  5. Tap and hold the screen and click on “Paste“.
